Trumps first gambit. We’re going to put our dukes up. Such a publicly bellicose style. It may give them [the asian threat] pause, but not for long if we keep screwing around in the middle east.

This gambit may well motivate the norks to take out this crazy little fatman and have a semblance of a self-supporting country.

“motivate the norks to take out this crazy little fatman “......

Best option we have. Beats the hell out of having any of our military people killed because of that lunatic.

The Chinese gambit of cutting off coal imports from NOKO is far more influential. The West really has very little power over NOKO and is only able to sway them long enough for NOKO to get what ever we give them. Only the Chinese can make a major dent in the regime and any sort of regime change is not in their cards at present.

Perhaps halting all military exercises with SOKO and withdrawing the THAADs would help the Chinese think of change, but don’t hold your breath for them nor for DJT.

Then China gets all of these without conceding anything. So why should they suddenly become more receptive? What do Chinese get to lose if they are still holding out even after this? Because U.S. will be in foul mood? To do what?

In my opinion our military is a sad bunch led by PC MC types. LGBT types, female “Obama” rangers, women breast feeding kids on duty, COED BCT and even many combat arms units “IS NOT” a military that can win a war. You cannot lower physical standards for any reason, much less sex. Does anyone really believe that those who have commanded and/or led an Infantry unit in combat want any of these types to worry about? Wherever men and women are together in close contact there will be sex. This is a major concern on any combat patrol as everyone needs to be alert at night and focused. I damn sure would not take any female in a FA FO party on an OP. First of all, I can and have called in and adjusted my own Arty and all Infantry officers are trained to do so. Frankly, we must demand serious changes to our military. This country is becoming a joke with people living on cell phones, TV’s, and PC and EATING to much.

Look for China to do something..

In the end, N. Korean problem all boils down to China. Want to fix N. Korea? Fix China first.

I served under LBJ and RMN and agree. The military swamp needs to be drained from the top on down. Get rid of the slackers and pay the rest more.

I'd say this is quite constrained.

USA: "All options, including military, are on the table in dealing with North Korea."

DPRK: "We shall turn the US bases in puppet South Korea and Japan into fiery cauldrons of brimstone hell with our weapons to fully protect the Republic, if they keep up their lawless rhetoric and criminal actions against the North."

Ok, I'm actually concerned by this. Crisis, saber rattling, reneging on deals, just generally being international a-holes... That's North Korea's MO, been doing it for decades.

So on the surface it looks like a mistake for President Trump to play into NK's typical theater of threats, counter-threats etc. But then, everything we've seen of President Trump leads me to believe he and his team are more than astute enough to see this...and yet he's going down that path anyway. Makes me think maybe he's not playing around, he's serious. I hope the norks realize this, else it's going to get bloody.

“Yes we do it is called total destruction via Preemptive nuclear strike!”

Ah! A McCainite! Such an attack would promptly receive a similar attack on the US from China and maybe Russia as well. Most of Maine might survive beyond Portsmouth Naval Shipyard depending on the prevailing winds and the size and yield of the strike.

” else it’s going to get bloody. “

It will sometime unfortunately; and many will die.
Each President has just wanted to push that off into the future.
From my recollection; it was just hours from starting when Clinton was President.
With nuclear weapons and missile technology that NK has; it may now to be the point where it happens sooner than later.
