Fracking Ban Passes House With Veto Proof Majority (Maryland)

The House of Delegates has approved a bill to permanently ban natural gas fracking in Western Maryland.

The bill passed by a vote of 97-40.

The 97 votes is 12 more than the minimum of 85 needed to override a veto from Governor Larry Hogan.

That majority was important to the chairman of the committee hearing the bill in the Senate.

The chairman of the Senate Education Health and Environmental Affairs Committee, Joan Carter Conway of Baltimore City, says she won’t bring the bill to the Senate floor unless lawmakers have enough votes to override a possible veto from Governor Hogan.

On Wednesday, Carter Conway told WBAL NewsRadio 1090 that she still supports the ban, but she believes there are not the minimum number of 29 votes in the Senate to override a possible veto.

Hogan has not said if he will veto the ban, but earlier this week Secretary of the Environment Ben Grumbles told WBAL NewsRadio 1090 that "rigorous regulations" would be in place if fracking were ever to be allowed in the state.

The funny thing is Russia IS behind the anti-fracking movement but you won’t see the Dims or the media talking about that!

This is good, each state in this constitutional republic must have the ability to control their individual states so long as it does not violate the Constitution of the United States.

However I must say Maryland is stupid beyond belief to do this. They are squandering a great resource. Pennsylvania will be happy to sell them natural gas.

Going with a socialistic form of government at the state level actually does violate the Guarantee Clause of Article 4 Section 4.

"However I must say Maryland is stupid beyond belief to do this. They are squandering a great resource. Pennsylvania will be happy to sell them natural gas."

They have been "Coumo'd" by their legislature, aka what has happened to UpState NY sitting on billions of Oil and Natural Gas and the Prince won't let them extract it.

What is it with these liberal states ( MA also, no pipelines, No Fracking, yes their is a shale formation in Western MA, and don't even get me started on how they nixed a LNG terminal in Boston ) that go for these ideological holier than thou Green Energy Mantras and their constituencies take it in the shorts financially because of higher energy cost lost jobs and they are proud of it. The Stupidity boggles the mind...

Hopefully, Republican Governor Hogan will veto this ‘RAT legislation and the Maryland Senate will lack the votes to override the veto.

Does Maryland have a Pocket Veto?!

No it was repealed in 1974
The best course of action is to Veto it with his objections and then let the democrats shove it down the voters throat.

Why stop there? They should ban the import or sale of fracked oil.

They should ban the import or sale of any gas or oil that touched any gas or oil that was extracted by fracturing.

Yep. All windmills. In the backyard of each legislator. And they have to pay a fine for each bird killed.
