Not if you buy ear muffs for everyone within earshot of your weapon.
Muffs and plugs stink for hunting, even the ones with mics. I have a set of Pro Ears and have tried using them while deer hunting; I can’t hear as well as I can with my ears and they add additional movement if you keep them off your ears until its time to shoot.
Now a silencer does nothing for the crack if you are using a supersonic round, but this is why .300 blackout has become very popular, its .30 cal and subsonic (no crack).
Someone needs to tell Senator Dumbarse that there is no such thing as a “silencer”, except perhaps in the movies which is likely the source of all his knowledge in the subject. I wish I could buy a device that worked as well as the ones in movies do. The reality is there are only “supressors” which do reduce the hearing damaging noise but by no means make the firing of a weapon silent or undetectable. These are avaible to anyone able to buy a gun and willing to fill out paperwork and send it off with $200 and then wait several months to get a stamp to allow you to pick it up. That is all the hearing protection act does, eliminate the $200 and unrealistic waiting time.
It'll protect the hearing of hunting dogs.
It will eliminate the $200/per suppressor tax stamp.
One anecdote of mine:
Awhile back I took my adult daughter to an indoor range. She used both ear plugs and ear muffs and the shooting noise still bothered her.
Suppressed guns would substantially reduce the noise.
You are absolutely correct. I used “silencer” in my post above yours, suppressor is the proper descriptor.
Silencer is the legal term in a number of states.
yeah
look at all the silencers they are accumulating in chiraq....
in nam they called them hush puppies.... (gun and silencer)
MURPHY IS A LIBTARD POS AND HE IS A MENACE TO FREEDOM...
Of all the murders in Chicago, how many used silencers?
“Silencers are used to commit crimes.”
Really? I dare you to give a single example.
empty soda bottles.....With small caliber rifles and small caliber auto’s you are correct.
Never heard that.
Very good. So I didn’t too far run afoul from the word police. Thanks.
In fact my state used to reference them as “silenced” in the relevant statute. They only became legal for hunting in late 2014, in Ala-freaking-bama. Considering we are about as pro 2A populace as Texas its kind of nuts it took so long.
If the HPA passes I will be early in line. Never really considered applying because never had a desire to put myself on ATFs radar.
And anyone who really wants one to commit a crime will get it black market anyway.
And anyone who really wants one to commit a crime will get it black market anyway.
Do these idiots really think that someone who is going to use a gun to murder someone will really stop if the equipment to do so is illegal? That they’ll suddenly become law abiding citizens?
Sen. Murphy is a moron. Being a senator he probably doesn’t notice how much of a moron he is.
Chicago is on pace in 2017 for 650+ murders and over 2,500+ injured, none of which will involve a "silencer", or a suppressor, for that matter.
With democrats, the stupid never stops.
Good point. I don’t hunt much, so I didn’t think about that. I never hunt ducks, so my hunting would be only one or two shots every once in a while. I’ve never worn muffs to hunt.
You are correct - but that’s not what the Senator is selling...
When I shoot among friends, they all buy their own...
