This woman is out of her mind. It doesn’t take much for the scanner to pick up something in that area. Even a small pill in a pocket can be picked up. Many people don’t empty everything because they think it will only pick up metal. If the pocket is shifted over, there you have it.
I’ve been patted down much more aggressively in almost every other country, even before 9/11. The Bahamas used open hands with a first time pat down with me, my young child, and my husband. I was like ‘whatever’. They are just doing their job and it takes about 30 seconds.
Well, Holly, I would have to disagree with your assessment. I wrote this column, and no, I'm nowhere near "out of [my] mind." Perhaps you didn't note the part where I reported the "hits" were on my CROTCH, KNEE and ANKLE, and no, my pocket had not "shifted over" in front of my vagina.
I won't bother explaining anything else to you, since you seem to be okay with unreasonable searches--as named in the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which is NOT any foreign country in which you've been groped by "security" forces.
You really allowed someone at an airport in the Bahamas to touch your young childs genitalia without protesting and you still think that was fine? Wow.
Or were you just exaggerating, and this woman’s experience really was much worse than yours? I’ve been patted down before, but never has any of my genitalia been touched, much less the entire area. Any rational person would see that as improper, especially if there was not a very good justification for it (and I’ve had areas show up in those scans that were simply where the fabric was wrinkled and a bit clumped, so no the scan alone doesn’t prove anything). I can tell you who sounds like the one more “out of her mind” to me (or at least less interested in basic human liberties and the right not to be sexually violated)...
