Tom Bevan Warns Media: If Everything About Trump Is A Scandal, Nothing Is
Real Clear Politics ^ | February 16, 2017 | Tim Hains

Posted on 02/16/2017 7:30:39 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

On Fox News Channel's 'Special Report' panel, RCP co-founder Tom Bevan responded to Donald Trump's attack on the media today. "The public doesn't believe you people anymore," Trump said to the White House press corps.

Bevan warned the media that the public is tuning them out because they were in a state of constant outrage. "The problem we're having, to the earlier point about apolocalyptic language, is that if everything is a scandal, nothing is," he explained. "If every cabinet nominee has horns, none of them do. The public is tuning it out."

TOM BEVAN: Media reputation, trust, is at an all-time low, something like 14%, it is worse than Congress. It is terrible. And one of the things that is going on here; Trump supporters don't trust the media --the New York Tmes sent someone out about four weeks ago to Northeastern Iowa to ask them about what was going on, and their response was: 'Nowadays unless I see proof positive, I assume it is a lie.'

And the problem we're having, to the earlier point about apolocalyptic language, is that if everything is a scandal, nothing is. If every cabinet nominee has horns, none of them do. The public is tuning it out, and the media is suffering and they haven't picked that up yet.

There is a lot of good stuff in this article.

Here is one I like:

“-the New York Tmes sent someone out about four weeks ago to Northeastern Iowa to ask them about what was going on, and their response was:

‘Nowadays unless I see proof positive, I assume it is a lie.’”

Northeastern Iowa has some good farmland. That’s where my brother-in-law (sister’s husband) is from.

This guy remembers the piling on of Slick Willie back in the 90s. It only made his Teflon coat a hell of a lot slicker. After a while, people just go, “yeah, yeah, yeah”, shrug and walk off. They can only take so many “scandals” before they get tired of hearing it.

That's why I think Trump should have kept Flynn - no one outside the Beltway paid the slightest attention to the controversy around him in the middle of all the noise from the press. It's obvious that the intelligence community in Washington is out of control and actively working against the administration. If they wanted Flynn out so badly, he was obviously the man to clean up that situation.

I’m from Kelley in Story County, just South of Ames and ISU, but I lived in Des Moines for 10 years.

Latest thing tonight seems to be that Trump doesn’t shake hands in the correct manner - he tries to “overpower” others with his greetings and handshakes - next they’ll be going after the color socks he wears......

Maxine Waters: "This is JUST the sort of thing we need to impeach him over! This is unacceptable!"

“I think Trump should have kept Flynn”

Me too. If this had happened on Obama’s watch, he and everyone else would have declared it to be a miscommunication and that would have been the end of it. The media got the White House to eat one of thier own, and now that they’ve been given that victory, they’ll work twice as hard to bring someone else down.

Me too. Cedar County now. Home of one traffic light in the whole county. And one Presidential Birthplace (Hoover).

I doubt there’s another county in the country with both factoids, LOL.

Yellow Journalism of the 1890s pushed the Spanish-American war into reality. Today’s Diarrhea Yellow Journalism would love to do similar (or worse) it seems.

If Trump asked Flynn to resign I'm sure he had good reasons for making that request. Flynn's letter shows he departed on good terms.

The question is whether this whole escapade was actually a setup to find the leaks in the intelligence community. If that was the case, and Trump really wanted to make heads explode, he could always reappoint Flynn to the job. Rehires happen all the time in the corporate world. Remember, Trump thinks like a CEO, not a politician. In the corporate world hirings and firings and various org chart reshuffles are just part of the norm and are simply how businesses adapt to changing circumstances.
