That is the perfect public example of a relationship I cannot understand as a conservative woman. Why subject oneself to that? One can find enough marital discord even with a politically (morally) like-minded husband.
Furthermore, as a Christian woman, I take seriously that part about the husband being the head. That is an easy thing knowing my husband understands his part in those scriptures also. But a key thing is that he shares my conservative values. For me, it would be a major hurdle maintaining my part in marriage to a lefty. Again, a downhome argument for extreme vetting.
You are making the rash assumption that Ms. Matalin and Mr. Carville are actually as politically opposite privately as they appear to be in public. I've always been of the mind that most of what they say and do is WWE-level theatrics.
