IOWA CITY — Her lip quivering, Patrisse Cullors’ heart sank.

It was 2013, and she was in a motel room on a website, waiting for the news of George Zimmerman’s verdict. Guilty, or not guilty, in the killing of Trayvon Martin — a black 17-year-old who was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer while on his way home from buying candy at a convenience store.

“Not guilty, and they say not guilty, and they continue to say not guilty until they say, ‘not guilty of all charges,’” Cullors, 32, of Los Angeles, recalled for a packed audience of hundreds in the Englert Theatre in Iowa City on Monday night. “And I start to cry. And I don’t cry just for Trayvon. I cry for black people. I cry for this country and our world.”

And through her tears, Cullors said, her spirit rose up with this revelation.

“If we allow this, if we allow ourselves to go silent, if we sweep this moment under the rug, they will continue to kill us and think it’s OK,” she said....

Yeah. My (ex)wife lives just a few miles from there, but got no sense from the local media that Z only acted in self-defense mode that resulted in justifiable homicide.

Once you get an Al Sharptoon in it, it becomes a caricature with everybody, including Obozo, wanting to get their picture in the paper.

The problem with dog bites man is that it doesn't sell paper and it doesn't keep people glued to the screen for the next sound bite on it. Agitation sells. You got it, right?

Yeah. I followed this pretty closely from the initial point when about 90% of the FR responders were jumping to invalid conclusions one way or the other and coming t almost knock-down verbal fights over it, rather than holding their peace until facts and rationality started to seep through.

I have lived 64 years, in the North and the South, and have traveled extensively through many of these United States. I have lived in the Inner City, and I have lived in rural and suburban areas, and I have seen many many Black People in my many years of living and working in America.

And, I have never seen a single one of them in chains.

Am I missing something?/s
