She knew beforehand. Such a thing is well publicized on campus. How else would she know to be there to write her story for the university newspaper?
Hopefully she'll marry a Muslim and spend the rest of her days in a harem being the lowest on the totem pole of all his wives, playing step-n-fetch-it to the senior Arab spouses.

She knew beforehand. Before leaving, I was told to keep the hijab as a way to remember the experience and understand the value in the decision Muslim women make every day.
She did NOT know beforehand that she would get to keep the Hijab, so she obviously could not have known to extra take the pepper spray.
