Is President Trump Doing Management Wrong? (Scott Adams)
Scott Adams' Blog ^ | January 31, 2017 | Scott Adams

I made the mistake of turning on CNN yesterday and saw all the hypnotized pundits trying to work the secret persuasion word “chaos” into every comment about President Trump. That’s your tell that none of the pundits are offering independent opinions. They are part of the hive mind led by some uncredited persuader on their side. Someone told them to say “chaos” a lot, and so they do. This might signal the return of Godzilla. Reminds me of “dark,” their hive-mind word for the summer of 2016.

It appears that Trump’s counter-persuasion for “chaos” involves framing his administration as “disruptive.” That’s a good persuasion move because it doesn’t deny the observations. A disruption looks a lot like chaos from the outside. Two movies on one screen.

I have colleagues who greet each other using those words precisely. I cannot imagine myself saying to anyone in the office above a whisper “Did you hear what Rush said yesterday . . . . ?”

Trump’s success I believe is in large part due to his ability to think faster than his opponents.

No, he's gotten caught a few times, made some mistakes, but he adjusted. He can adjust faster than his opponents.

I've written about Trump's intelligence - he builds skyscrapers, incredibility complex structures, from permitting, designing, purchasing, installing interconnected systems, managing tens of thousands.

Can you imagine O'Barkey taking on a task like that?

You need to look ahead, anticipate problems, and adjust to changing conditions - and not just you, but the huge enterprise you are running.

Politics is a new area for Trump, and he is coming up to speed fast.

Cripes, he's only been in office 10 days.

You are part of a growing group here on FR that recognize the effect of expedited decision-making as being key to success because opposition cannot form fast enough to get ahead of events. The thing is that this recognition is limited because it requires a certain type of mindset and experience. Your screen name gives yours away: engineer. Others with similar skills are military (especially pilots), people with process and systems management skills, market innovators, etc. Trump is in the last group and has shown it in countless ways but the plodders in conventional politics and media don’t understand how it works. I pray it remains so for at least the next 4 years and that Pence is taking copious notes.

I’m surprised they haven’t accused him of having no ‘gravitas’.

Trump’s playing 3D Timed Chess, and the opposition has lost 9 games in a row. But they don’t know it yet and are still analyzing game 3, trying to figure out how they got checkmated (again). Meanwhile, Trump has started game 10 and hit the timer.

Spot on!

By the time they have developed some way to react to something Trump has done, he has already moved on to the next thing.

There was a book written by some guy name Saul Alinsky, which detailed his political fellow travelers using that strategy against their enemies. Think maybe the table have been turned?

I have noted the same thing , I call it blitzkrieg. They can’t keep up with the dusting pace. We are having protests every day in San Francisco and few is I even know what they are for. It’s rope a dope

And I’m not an engineer or anything. Just a mommy. And a cab driver.

especially pilots

Pilots are mules compared to submariners!

I’d agree that OODA applies to submariners since they “fly” through a thicker medium but the concept applies. It was a pilot who wrote the book that I read so that’s why my mind goes to pilots using the principles. Thanks for the reminder!

Just calling out pilots to create chaos. It’s good clean fun.

I’ve read both Boyd’s biography, his old PPT presentations and Chet Richard’s book Certain to Win. All good reads.

Politics is a new area for Trump, and he is coming up to speed fast.

As Judge Jeanine Piro observed "He hasn't just hit the ground running, he's already airborne".

Trump is the first president in my lifetime who was already effectively president before he was even inaugurated. In fact, I'd argue he was effectively president even before he was elected. The last few weeks of the campaign gave us a glimpse of the pace he is capable of setting, and Kellyanne Conway has admitted that his staff has trouble keeping up with him--and a lot of these are people 20+ years his junior.

The reason that the American Navy always does so well in wartime, is because war chaos, and the Americans practice chaos on a daily basis.
