A photo that appeared on Reddit last week of Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt wearing a pink pussy hat in the courtroom made the rounds on Twitter Monday. The knit cap, which recently made the cover of TIME, was conceived by two women in Los Angeles who envisioned a sea of pink hats at the Womens March on Washington.

I would not attempt to defend this individual; however, in the larger counties in Texas, the County Judge is normally an administrative position, not a judicial one. In some states, they would be referred to as County Executives or some other less confusing title. Judicial duties are normally handled by County Court at Law Judges. In the smaller counties, the administrative and judicial duties are combined.
She should not be wearing that silly hat, but after all, she is in Austin so possibly we should just be thankful that she is wearing anything.
