Shah headed up what’s called ‘opposition research’ on Hillary. He has been in oppo research for a long time, working in the Bush 2 White House and for the McCain and Romney campaigns. He does not have notable technical computer expertise.

Raj is a Hindu name. He’s at least by birth a Hindu. He could have become a Christian or atheist or agnostic. If he became Moslem, he would have changed his first name

Note that Indian Moslems tend to have “Arabized” names — well, that’s true of most Moslems. Nearly 100%. And converts especially.

About the surname Shah, not quite correct --> see here (Wikipedia article)
Shah is an Indian surname. It is often confused with the Persian "Shah" meaning "King". It is derived from Sanskrit Sadhu (meaning gentleman.

...Shah, a different last name, derived from the Persian word "Shah", is a surname found among the Iranian peoples of Central Asia, Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan.
So it can be a surname of a Moslem, Christian or Hindu.

Christians in India now tend to retain or keep Indian names.

I’m confused by the “2nd generation American” part.

Does that mean his parents became citizens before he was born?

Are they citizens now?
