Right. We don’t know from the story.
Was it only the victim, the youngster and the father there at the time? If the kid shot the guy and it was only those three, what would the father do?
True. Some mistakes we only get to make once.
“Don’t worry. It’s not loaded.”
There is a lot of information missing from the article, especially about the shooter and his father.
Dont worry. Its not loaded.
And two seconds later, he might be correct.
Agreed.
Any young person calls for extra attension with firearms.
Even when you know them well.
Unless you are at the range getting ready shoot you should clear a gun every and any time you pick it up. I've got several guns stored away which I know for a fact are not loaded and if I ever took them out or picked them up the FIRST thing I would do is clear the chamber. (ie. check the chamber). As noted above, the first rule of gun safety: "All guns are always loaded with a round in the chamber and must be treated as such" or stated otherwise, "There's no such thing as an unloaded gun".
Just as the Russians did not make Hillary a terrible candidate, showing a kid a gun did not make him point it at someone and pull the trigger. Hell of a thing but the kid is responsible.
It isn't hard following very simple, basic rules, and those rules WILL save lives, every time they are followed.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to kill someone if a gun, loaded or not, is NEVER EVER pointed at someone. I'm sure the "what about ricochet?" comment is coming..
I can’t imagine why anyone would hand a loaded gun to a 16 year old under these circumstances.
“I cant imagine why anyone would hand a loaded gun to a 16 year old under these circumstances.”
Yes, and that is exactly why there are parts of the story that are missing.
“Just as the Russians did not make Hillary a terrible candidate, showing a kid a gun did not make him point it at someone and pull the trigger. Hell of a thing but the kid is responsible.”

If that’s indeed what happened. We don’t know the dynamics of the persons involved or why they got together. I hope the local police have enough brains to check the whole story out.
Yup. Needs more looking into.
"Hey, show me your new pistol."
"No. Perhaps we can go to the range one day and you show me you know how to handle one."
That way, there can be no accidents involving someone who is not familiar with the weapon.
Let them get p!$$y. I don't care.
This can't be said enough.
It makes me absolutely crazy how often I'm in the presence of "experienced" handgun owners who wave it around, sometimes pointing it at myself and others, and telling me the weapon is "unloaded" when I call them on it.
EXACTLY.
And when the ‘bar is open’ the gun safe remains locked.
No kidding
