Although I’ve never been to Camp David, I’ve been to nearby Ft. Detrick, MD, which is outside of Frederick, MD, and up to Thurmont and the surrounding area. It is quite nice and secluded in the Catoctin Mountains. The president can fly directly there by helicopter from the White House, thus minimal travel costs esp flying to Hyannisport or Hawaii.

Also, one of the several Cold War alternate government sites is in the same mountain range.

Plus the Union Army marched up what is now US 15 from Frederick to Gettysburg in late June, 1863; something about having a date with Bobbie Lee somebody....

I have a marine buddy who was stationed there during Reagan’s term. Lots of crazy stories where the public forest was cleared of hippies before Mr. Reagan would go horse back riding.

Apparently, quite the place.
