Savannah is the armpit of Ga. I can not understand folks willingly traveling there and spending hard earned money as tourists.

I haven't been there yet, but it IS on the coast, and there are some historical locations that cannot be recreated anywhere. Also, a Georgia armpit is probably a field of daisies compared to the Illinois, New York and New Jersey armpits I've seen.

Wife and I had a very enjoyable stay in Savannah but we stayed in the historic district and riverfront area. We were able to walk everywhere we chose to go and were not confronted by homeless beggars. While every city has its problems, they are generally confined to specific areas which a tourist should avoid.
