My question is, did they just keep him to prevent self harm, or to actually help him work out his conflicts?
I would guess that, after evaluating him for three days, they determined that this guy was nothing more than a sniveling little self-centered snowflake who was no danger to anyone including himself. They had plenty of "real" patients piling up on their case load, and sent him on his way.
Based on his "look at me!" post, I'd say three days of "treatment" wouldn't have put a dent in his neuroses anyway.
