But a reflex that a tariff is just wonderful without knowing more is a recipe for global chaos.
I do not care about global chaos. I care about the chaos and socialism ascendant in the USA caused by idling our work force in the name of said globalization and profit margins.
... without knowing more...
I’ll be your Huckleberry. What I would like to offer is a little knowledge and history.
In the 1970s when China, Japan and other asian countries got their steel mills on line with modern production, it killed our steel industry because its capacity was huge and its plants were all new having been re-built by us as war recovery occurred.
In the 1990s a similar thing happened with Cement. China had little air pollution regulations and the kilns are a dirty process. Clinkering (the second stage) is dirty as well. So by 2012, China has a big cement capacity and they begin to be able to kill cement production anywhere in the world where they want to ship and dump.
China doesn’t have twice our capacity. It doesn’t have ten times our capacity. No, no no. It has 29 times our capacity in 2012. In fact, those nut jobs have created so much capacity they now control 2/3s of the entire planet’s production of a strategic resource.
So, a complaint about a tax or tariff is probably got a big back story. I don’t know the back story myself, just enough insight to point our joint investigation in the right direction.
