You act as though The Conservative Treehouse didn’t expose Cruz as GOPe back in, what, September of last year?
Love Conservative Treehouse.
Listen, I’ll end my spat with you on this note. Before Trump even made serious rumblings about running, Ted Cruz was my guy. Once Trump entered the race, I was intrigued, but not convinced he was in it for the long haul, and besides, he and Cruz were like bosom buddies for months.
I thought that was a good strategy on both their parts. Cruz let Paul, Perry, Jindal, Jeb! etc take on the Trumpster, all to disastrous effect for their campaigns.
But seeing how the final four (Dr. ben was fading quick) was Marco, Kasich (who should have dropped out), Cruz and Trump, it was inevitable that the buddy-show was going to end, and it did.
It was vicious. It was personal. There were lies thrown around wantonly, deceptive ads, deceptive PACs, etc etc. It happens EVERY PRIMARY. It was completely expected and completely brutal. Trump wins handily. Wounds need to heal.
By this time I was on Trump’s wagon, largely because of his repeated, strong agenda, and partly because the Cruz team (not just Cruz, but some of his disgusting surrogates like Amanda Carpenter) acted like asses.
However, Perry, Jindal, Paul and Marco also acted like even bigger, more vicious asses at points in the campaign. Yet, they each fulfilled their pledge to support Trump, and Trump was Gracious in receiving their support.
Cruz dragged it out til the last minute, but finally fulfilled his pledge (unlike Jeb!, Goober Kasich, and Graham ). Trump, once again, graciously accepted Cruz’ support. Trump knows Cruz is smart and that they need to be on the same team if they are to get the agenda enacted.
We as spectators, can choose never to forgive and forget. We are entitled to that. It is much tougher for a president to cling to that, because his whole purpose in life is now to enact the promised agenda, or he will be considered a failure. And Trump cannot have major fractures with fellow conservatives, because it will be they, not the RINOs (of which there are many) who will carry the day for Trump in the House and Senate.
