Donald Trump supporter Sarah Palin has come out swinging at Ted Cruz accusing the Texas senator's campaign manager of "dirty tricks" for suggesting the billionaire developer bought her endorsement and calling the alleged chicanery "heartbreaking."
In a volcanic message under the headline "Dirty Politics: Witnessing Firsthand It's Always Heartbreaking, Never Surprising," the former Alaska governor and vice-presidential running mate of John McCain in 2008, Palin writes on her Facebook page:
"Thank heavens Donald Trump opened so many eyes to the lies, corruption and total lack of accountability that come so naturally to the permanent political class. And Sen. Ted Cruz was spot on when he once noted that 'millions of Americans are asking for accountability and truth.' "Which is why it's so curious and saddens us this lack of accountability with the lies of Cruz's own campaign."
Palin is on the warpath over suggestions that Trump, a billionaire, "bought" her endorsement. On Monday, Cruz's campaign manager Rep. Steve King suggested that when he told NBC News:"[Trump] has a massive amount of assets and resources that he can deploy when it comes time to convince someone. And that has to affect the way people think. Not only the plus-ups of the promotion, the limelight, all the resources that are there." Palin charged King with "lying."
"King, who's previously asked for and received my endorsement, time and resources to support his own election, is still lying about my altruistic support of Mr. Trump, and he's refused to provide any evidence to the contrary," Palin wrote on Facebook.
"And, this U.S. Congressman (Steve King) actually lied to his own constituents on behalf of Cruz, regarding a good man, Dr. [Ben] Carson. "He told voters Carson was dropping out of the Presidential race immediately before the Iowa caucus, causing a relative uproar inside the process, so the word would spread and he could rack up more votes for his candidate, Cruz. That's a dirty trick. Dr. Carson deserved better. The voters deserved better!"
Palin said Steve King was guilty of "very sad; typical Washington tactics."
"THIS is why 'the status quo has got to go'
We've had eight years of a reckless President, accountable to no one, pushing this country to the brink. Why would we ever take a risk repeating that?
Thanks Gov. Palin for all you do.
The Primaries are a cage match. What’s your point?
Is this the reason why CRUZ met with DONALD TRUMP?
No, they didn’t. The sent along a CNN report.
Sarah was just upset because Trump lost Iowa.
If I were DJT, I wouldn’t trust REC any farther than I could throw him.
Yes, Ted cheated. King knew it. Palin and Trump are correct.
The tweets were posted all over from Ted’s campaign that set up the CNN anchors.
Please don’t try to rehash the collusion between CNN and Cruz’s camp for conservatives now, after it’s been established fact for so long.
Am I in a time warp ? Alternate FR universe ?
Is Pence setting up all these RINO meetings for the Trump administration with Cruz and King?
This is from February. What’s the point now?
Just reminding peeps of the dirty tricks Cruz and King did against Trump and Palin now that it seems they are being considered for the Trump White House.
Trump White House. What a great phrase!
No, they are not.
Dr. Carson said he was going home. (Meaning he as going off the trail for a few days to refresh.) Most of the networks simply reported the statement. but CNN interpreted it to mean that Carson was dropping out.
Cruz’s people — and Rubio’s — sent their coordinators that report. By the time CNN corrected it, the voting was underway.
Those are the facts of the matter.
Cruz/King are being discussed for the Trump Administration.
This post is a “no” vote to Mike Pence.
i disagree. and i’ve always liked Sarah, but this not a good move. she should have remained mum about the slight to her and reached out to king in private to see if he was now sorry for the comment, in retrospect. things are said in the heated moments of a campaign when people are fighting for their political lives, that may prove just wrong. looking back for context. King was a close partisan of cruz (whose reputation was still good at that time). at that point, Palin’s endorsement of Trump was considered a stab in the back to many conservatives.
with 20-20 hindsight, King, i’m sure would like to take back that heated political statement about Palin and probably unendorse cruz, but he may have felt he had to defend cruz, at that time with both barrels blazing.
in terms of cruz’s “dirty tricks” those are legion and shouldn’t be laid at the feet of king. i hope king is a big enough man and conservative to forgive palin, admit that he was wrong about her and President Trump and work well with her if she ends up in Trump administration.
Uh, I guess you weren’t on Twitter when it was going down. I’m sure I can dig up the tweets disproving the Cruz campaign lies about it if you give me a few days.
I was reading all the contemporaneous accounts, and the facts are that it was simply an error.
Ted was just helping CNN out, was he?
Ted was sending the information that he had to his coordinators in the caucuses. The information turned out to be incorrect, but that came out after hte voting was underway.
King was bought and paid for himself by the Cruz camp; his son was on the payroll.
What he himself was doing, he accused Palin of doing with Trump and he was dead wrong.
Palin’s endorsement of Trump was dead right and Cruz attacked her viciously when it occurred with a threatening tweet.
As Jim Robinson as so often pointed out for us, Trump is a firm conservative.
Trump is way more conservative than even Cruz, the Bushie RINO Goldman Sachs fake constitutionalist who knew he couldn’t be president.
yes the error is that cruz and rubio did not confirm info before assuming accurate and forwarding. slice it how ever you want they were wrong to assume and to not confirm with Ben or others that would know, not simply a mistake. At there level of political play they know better.
