The only consequence of owning a gun as a felon is in the chance that you are still committing crimes you will get caught. But if you’ve stopped committing crimes you will likely never get charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
There’s no way to stop felons from actually buying a weapon besides more stringent background checks, registrations, and other unconstitutional laws that just don’t work.
Perhaps with a worse consequence for a second gun crime such as “okay you robbed someone at gunpoint and did your time, if you commit another crime using a gun and are convicted you will be put to death.”
I think that would be a much more fair way of giving felons their right back, but do it again and it’s lights out. No third chance. Everyone should get a second chance(IMHO) but not a third.
no second chances to kill or injure more people with guns. in the past they would never get out of jail, would have been shot dead fighting the law, or be hanging from a rope.
further’you are correct the felon with gun charge gets dropped all the time as a plea bargain item. confirms for me no second chances as it just is not taken seriously as it should be.
