A Time to Unite

As a staunch Cruz supporter and a reluctant Trump supporter let me be the first to say CONGRATULATIONS!

I have crossed swords(as many of us Cruzheads have) with Trump supporters from the beginning. Many of us on FR that supported Cruz were concerned with two major percieved potential issues with the Donald....That he was indeed a conservative and was he electable. The former was answered last night, the latter will be answered in the coming months.

I voted for Donald Trump because even the remotest chance of a Hillary Clinton presidency was unconscionable. Many of us Cruzheads got over our butthurt over Cruz losing and realized that even an imperfect Trump was vastly superior to the vile Hildebeast. Hence many of us DID vote our conscience and cast our ballot for Trump. I honestly believe that many Cruz supporters including those here on FR did the same and certainly helped push Trump over the top.

The time for all Republicans to unite and push for the conservative constitutional governance that this country is so desperately lacking is now. I will give Donald Trump my complete support in the diligent pursuit of this end. I would hope that all fellow conservatives would do the same.

The main regret I have?

I won't "have" to buy new guns any time soon.

😢

You somehow got your latters and your formers mixed up.

But be that as it may, the word "Conservative" is almost as misused and abused as the word "liberal". Small "l" and you've got John Locke and Adam Smith. Capitalize the first letter and you've got someone so illiberal that their true comrades in philosophy are Marx, Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, and Mao.

In terms of a Goldwater, a Buckley, or even a Reagan, Trump is no "Conservative". He's more an old style Truman or Sam Nunn Democrat, someone for whom there is no longer any place in today's "Democratic" Party.

What I was concerned about with him and why I did not vote for him in the primary was the possibility he was a stalking horse for Hillary Clinton and would take a dive after winning the Republican nomination. Boy, was I wrong on that. He took prisoners like Santa Anna at the Alamo. But on your second point, I do not expect Trump to govern like a Coolidge or a Reagan. Maybe more like Eisenhower. And compared to what four years of Hillary Clinton would have brought that's wonderful.

Indeed.

It almost seemed that he actually appeared more conservative after he won the primary. I found that to be somewhat encouraging.

Unite my a$$.

Trump supporters have been crapped on by pretty much everybody in the establishment for last the year-and-a-half; not to mention what we’ve had to put up with from the likes of Obama for the past 7+ years.

I’m going Madame Dafarge.

Indeed, congratulations! I am happy to admit I was wrong about the outcome of the Trump campaign. I was for Cruz, and still admire him, despite the opinion of many here. However, I voted for Trump, with the hope he will stay on the course of reform he has promised. All in all, today is a much brighter one than I could have hoped just a few days ago.

The time for all Republicans to unite and push for the conservative constitutional governance that this country is so desperately lacking is now.

Why would they do that? The "Republicans" have made it crystal clear they do not want , nor believe in, conservative constitutional governance. Now, if Trump wants to extend the invitation anyway, fine. But by God, there can be no more "compromising" with those who would as happily shake our hand as stab us in the back. FINIS!

Liberals won’t unite. They want us to capitulate, give in, to their ways.

Well put.

I was an unapologetic Cruz supporter too. Even after Trump won the nomination, I had a hard time warming up to him. I questioned his Republican values. To some degree, I still do.

But as I mentioned in a private e-mail to another Freeper about a month ago, I said “Trump on his very worst day is lightyears better than Hillary.”

I voted for him here in Minnesota and as you know, he came darned close to winning this state. His presence on the ticket helped the GOP in the rural races as the we gained control of the state senate and expanded our majority in the state House.

I wish him well, very well in fact.
