I spent many many years dealing with people in heavy industry and one of the things I learned early on is:

Beware of the person who tells y ou how honest he is.

People who are secure and happy in their own skin never do that. Their attitude generally is that you ignore what they tell you at your own peril.

In other words, take it or leave it. Your decision and your problem if you don't.

When you meet up with one who is trying to convince you that he is honest or so religious he would not take advantage of you, he telegraphs his own insecurity in his image.
