Aboard a US military aircraft (AFP) - A Russian fighter flew dangerously close to a US warplane over eastern Syria, US defence officials said Friday, highlighting the risks of a serious mishap in the increasingly crowded airspace.
The near miss occurred late on October 17, when a Russian jet that was escorting a larger spy plane manoeuvred in the vicinity of an American warplane, Air Force Lieutenant General Jeff Harrigian said.
The Russian jet came to "inside of half a mile", he added.
Another US military official, speaking on condition of anonymity , said the American pilot could feel the turbulence produced by the Russian jet's engines.
"It was close enough you could feel the jet wash of the plane passing by," the official said.
It appeared the Russian pilot had simply not seen the US jet, as it was dark and the planes were flying without lights.

Russia is there legally, we are not.
Russia is there at the request of the Syrian Government.
What we are doing there, at one time, such as when Hitler did it to the Poles and Japan did it to us at Pearl Harbor and other places was considered an act of war.
We are there supporting Hillary’s and obama’s personal private army, ISIS or ISIL.
Trump needs to sit down with Putin after the election and hammer out a compromise both sides can live with. Pounding on the table isn’t going to instantly reverse two decades of bad decisions under both Bush and Obama. Restoring some semblance of peace and security needs to be the priority at this point.
The West needs to be on the same page with regard to the middle east. We can no longer afford this Cold War II nonsense- the stakes are just too high at this point.

We are there because of the spice. The oil. Qatari’s wanted an oil pipeline running through Syria. Assad said nope. He has been a DC Cartel enemy since then. Now the idiots running the US have failed to realize that since Turkey has rejected NATO and aligned with Russia, that pipeline through Syria is not going through Turkey anymore on its way to Europe. So in essence, we are there simply because the graft payments to destroy Assad, have already been spent. And a world war now actually is what the US Petrodollar Dollar Central Bankers want. And of course the Shiite Sunni’s would love the US to fight a war against Russia.
