Please tell me how many states VOTED - in a referendum - to approve marriage redefinition.

Four, by referendum (Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and Washington State). Ten more (plus DC) by votes of the Legislature (CT, DC, CA, DE, HI, IL, MA, NH, NY, RI, VT). All others by orders of state or federal courts.

The referendum you mention either declined to reverse legislative action to redefine marriage (2) or directly approved a redefinition of marriage (2). Hardly a national mandate.
