Last weekend, a Saudi-led coalition carried out airstrikes against the Yemeni capital Sanaa, targeting a crowded funeral ceremony. Saudi Arabia believed that by senior Houthis rebel figures were at the funeral. The airstrike killed 140 and wounded more than 500. The number of casualties is very likely to rise.
The Houthis are rebelling in order to remove the internationally-recognized government of Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour al-Hadi from power. Al-Hadi is being backed by a Saudi Arabian-led coalition against the Iranian backed Houthis in a proxy war for the control of Middle-Eastern oil.
The Houthis lashed out at the USS Mason and USS Ponce with land based missiles in retaliation after warplanes from the Saudi-led coalition struck the funeral in the Yemeni capital. U.S. officials believed that Houthi fighters, or forces aligned with them, were responsible for the attempted strikes in which coastal, anti-ship cruise missiles had been fired. Senator John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, believes the missiles fired at the USS Mason were likely provided by Iran. On October 1st, the Houthis did strike a vessel from the United Arab Emirates.
Shi'ite Houthis, supported by Iran, are likely trying to gain control of the area around the Bab al-Mandab Strait, one of the world's busiest shipping routes. Iran said it had deployed two warships into the Gulf of Aden to protect shipping lanes from piracy. Its likely they were targeting military ships that might have intercepted the Iranian vessels as they resupplied allied forces.
The United States launched cruise missiles against Yemens Shiite Houthi rebels for the first time in that countrys civil war. Mr. Obama authorized the strikes at the recommendation of Defense Secretary Ash Carter and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford.

We should just target moslem funerals. It wouldnt take long until we were all out of targets.
So now we have to learn about the Shiite Houthis.
I’m pretty sure they still go under the definition of Terrorist Groups.
Hard to tell under the current regime, last time I checked only White conservative Christian Vets are terrorists.
Just after the Tonkin Gulf resolution, the US bombed coastal radar sites in NVN. The war in VN was off and running. Engineered by a corrupt democRat President. Any similarities?
are we at war with Yemen now?
I wonder what sort of intel was gained for the eventual sacrifice of those pieces.
I wonder what it cost to counter those pieces and what openings were created several moves ahead as a result.
Not yet. A war either with Russia or Yemen would be a nice little distraction for the rats. Neither are worth American lives.
The usurper has a Nobel peace prize. What a bad joke.
Somebody in Yemen has been shooting at our ships. And I don’t mean 7.62x39.
I’ll take Wag the Dog for 100 Alex
Yemeni radar sites supplied and manned by Iranian Rev Guard....
Yay, another war entered into without public debate or Congressional authorization!
Hmmm... wait a sec. Haven’t all the people carrying out these orders sworn solemn oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution? Shouldn’t they be refusing these illegal orders?
“Yemen spring”
Official US administration strategy
We’ve gotten to the endgame on terrorism, where “terrorist” is simply another term for anyone who opposes the Deep State.
So yes, they’ll be using that term to refer to you and me soon enough.
tomahawk +10X the cost of the radar site.
Can anyone say what happened to the refinery in Yemen and the crude oil pipeline to the Red Sea? Without the refinery, the country will rapidly run out of gasoline, diesel, heating oil and cooking gas. Without the pipeline, there will not be any crude export.
Should have let the Mason and Ponce do the strike. Give the sailors a little payback time for the earlier pucker factor.
Who said they didn’t? Both are Burke’s, more than capable of firing Tomahawks.
