As the military phases out the iconic Humvee, it is left with a surplus of these go-anywhere four-wheel drive vehicles that have been the backbone of the U.S. infantry for more than 30 years. Before this year they've been tough to come by for civilians. But now's your chance to own your own personal Humvee straight from Uncle Sam.

Oh, yeah - and the CARC paint is poisonous.
Count me out!
They are a breakdown looking for a place to happen. The local air base has them for missile patrol outside the base. They are parked everywhere along side the road.
Now, if they were getting rid of M151’s, M38’s or MB’s I’d be game.
+2. Won’t fit on any trail around here.
I’ll keep my 65 Willys CJ5.
I’m surprised ISIS hasn’t set up a used car lot in Mosul for them...they have a lot of surplus ones too.
All the above true, but I’d take one to tick my liberal neighbors-moved-down-from-Dallas off. They’re all about makin stuff green and golf course like, whick ruined the privacy in front of my house.
I would like to do something similar.
I’d rather have an antique halftrack.
One of the old soft sided turbocharged ones might be fun, but the newer up armored ones aren’t worth their weight in pennies.
Sold to the wrong people, those Humvees might prove disastrous.
Not one was carefully driven only to church by a little old lady.
It’s my understanding that they are not street legal. So unless you’ve got a big farm or ranch, there’d be no point.
You are correct. I have 3 of them at the university research facility that manage. They cannot be tagged. They were acquired via the GSA system and are used as welding and water hauling rigs for the necessary pasture work that is required.
They are stout dudes and take our hills like nobody’s biz.
MFO
I had one of those turbocharged engines in a pickup. Left me stranded in the mountains with a camper and a horse trailer with horses. Luckily it broke down right in camp. The group we were with had someone who was very good friends with a tow truck company owner.
It wasn’t the first engine problem either. I paid the dealer to repair the engine and then sold it right there.
Might be fun for fall tailgating
My Marine son works on these and hates them.
When I was a kid the government was selling WWII surplus jeeps, brand new, really cheap. But there was one catch; they were still in parts in crates...some assembly required!
Anything like that would work for me also. WTF - move to land in the country and want to make it like your Dallas suburb. I kid you not, first time i met the lady next door i was out working in the garden with a .380 strapped to my ankle. Told her its because I’m phobic about snakes. Her response, “oh no! ‘They’ don’t let them out here do ‘they?’” How do you respond to that? Who is they? Our properties share a property line but we’re surrounded by Corps of Engineers land. Most people have weekend fishing cabins out here. Heck, they can’t control those critters any better in the posh suburbs than anybody can here but at least i can shoot the things.
“Ill keep my 65 Willys CJ5.”
Out of curiosity, I tried to view your Willys, not the same year, but very nice!
Wasn't that what Anthony Wiener was doing with his selfies, trying to put pics of his Willy out there?
