Madison, not Jefferson, was the primary architect of the Constitution.

Still, nice effort!

I cite Jefferson as writing the Declaration, not the Constitution, as he was in France when it was constructed.

Also, KUDOS and CONGRATULATIONS to Free Republic for FINALLY fixing their “apostrophe” problem, where whenever there was an apostrophe, strange symbols would come up instead.

Declaration of Independence broken down into its sentences

Well done and thank you on the eve of such a great day!

I would like a link to your Declaration of Independence effort if it is available on the net.

Have you read "The Original Argument"? It is a rewrite of the Federalist Papers into today's English. Another effort I praise.

Here it is

It was my first, so it’s not as proofed as much as broken down.

I read it thru once. Then I re-read and googled some portions I didnt understand. There are still places i find vague due to terminology, phrasing or my own ignorance. Anybody know of a good link breaking down the whole thing in layman’s terms?

Most of our Constitution is still crystal clear after 229 years. It doesn’t need to be interpreted, just understood and applied.

Darn, I wanted to see how you treated the Second Amendment.

And I? Next to the 2nd Amendment the most important is the long ignored 9th.

I am also a believer that it is irrational and unconstitutional to argue or proclaim that any of the First 10 Amendments of the Bill of Rights can nullify any of the others.

In the first chapter of my Conservative Debate Handbook, there is a Simplified Overview Of The Constitution.

I'm not sure I understand the controversy that you are referring to, but in general a higher numbered amendment takes precedence over a lower numbered amendment, or the body of the constitution.

At least I'll drink to the hope that the 21st amendment trumps the 18th amendment.

Can you tell me what this means? Its Judicial, Sec 2 #3

The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.

That congress has power for punishment of treason, I get. What does the rest of that mean? I have a handfull of trip ups like that. Someday I'd like to settle them all and comprehend every word of the document.

I believe it is in response to ancient laws that punished down through the generations of one's posterity. That is certainly my understanding.

Keep in mind, as the Preamble makes clear--and why it supports Trump so clearly; the document looks to a multi-generational project. It is all about family, the continuity of the people, in its projected purpose. It looks to putting the Americans first--it does not look to any outside function. (I mean outside of serving the American people, down through their generations.)

Ease of reading is the one reason I did it that I forgot to mention. Thanks. I did this for me to start with, as it’s much more fluid without all the capital letters all over the place. Today, when people hand out copies of the Constitution in stunts, it’s in the original grammar and spelling, and I think people get quickly turned off because of those, though they shouldn’t be.

I heartily agree! We have 2 copies of the Constitution in our living room, and comprehend most of it. But those niggly little confusing parts bother both my husband and I. I appreciate the effort you've made here. I plan to share with hubby tonight.
