I hope the video explains to keep OAL legal...
There are laws against sawing something less than the ‘legal’ length
Randy Weaver was ASKED by an FBI agent to saw a gun 1/4 inch shorter than was legal. The FBI Agent showed him exactly where he wanted it cut.
The government ended up killing his wife and son over it at Ruby Ridge.
Under the National Firearms Act (NFA), it is illegal for a private citizen to possess a sawed-off modern smokeless powder shotgun (a shotgun with a barrel length shorter than 18 inches (46 cm) or an overall length shorter than 26 inches (66 cm)) (under U.S.C.
Sheesh, just get a Mossberg 500 Tactical. Easy Peasey
” Remember that in the US, if you cut a shotgun barrel down to less than eighteen inches, you need to have an approved form-1 before you start. Youve gotta pay your $200, get approval from the ATF, and have your form in-hand before you ever start work.”
Nice educational video.
The best lesson I learned, was that this guys gun is LEGAL, as he jumped through the legal hoops to make it happen, which apparently anyone with no criminal record can do.
I’m lucky I live in an area where such defense is quite likely not needed.
Road Warrior weapon.
Watch the video and learn how to earn yourself free room and board at certain state prisons.
For example, OCGA § 16-11-121(5) "Sawed-off shotgun" means a shotgun or any weapon made from a shotgun whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise having one or more barrels less than 18 inches in length or if such weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches.
O.C.G.A. § 16-11-122 No person shall have in his possession any sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer except as provided in Code Section 16-11-124.
O.C.G.A. § 16-11-123 A person commits the offense of unlawful possession of firearms or weapons when he or she knowingly has in his or her possession any sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer, and, upon conviction thereof, he or she shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of five years.
O.C.G.A. § 16-11-124 This part shall not apply to: (4) Possession of a sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer by a person who is authorized to possess the same because he has registered the sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer in accordance with the dictates of the National Firearms Act, 68A Stat. 725 (26 U.S.C. Sections 5841-5862);
Step one ... get a shotgun.

The Thompson Center Arms Encore comes either as a pistol or a rifle in a broad range of caliber/gauge and can be converted to a different caliber/gauge. I am curious what the BATFE would say about something initially purchased as a pistol but modified with a short 12 gauge barrel. It should be a pistol and not a short-barrel shotgun, just like the Judge is, but you never know with BATFE.
I don't know how he got it past the ATF and frankly I'm not interested to know because I'm not stepping into that gray area and I would not encourage any other person to either unless I really wanted to see them get into Federal trouble or maybe shoot their own left hand off.
Now what will happen is some impressionable person will see this and think "hey, I can go ruin a perfectly good and venerable old shotgun too, but conveniently neglect to get the federal stamp for it".
Not everything about the internet is good.
One would imagine that a shotgun and a saw are involved. Doesn’t seem like rocket science.
