Whatever dude.
Do you actually hunt? I doubt it because you would never have said ‘run after’ if you hunted in NV. Have you tried to get close to an Elk? Try it sometime.
As you should know, out here Elk will see you coming MILES away. There is no cover except the ground itself.
And a lot of folks hunt things like coyote and prairie dogs. Not ‘game’ and no big deal if they are wounded to die later. (yeah I know many people use smaller carriages for that).
Ever go out to BLM land and actually pace off 1000 yards, out in the desert? It isn’t much.

Back when I did hunt it was in places with heavy woods. A wounding shot is not that uncommon and not some horrible terrible end of the world unethical thing. S**t happens. Dudes would shoot at a moving target at 50 yards. Is that really so much harder and more chancy than a stationary target at 1000 (if you have the right gun and gear)?
