Detroit’s economic problems were not caused by politics. The globalist shift of production offshore and the US govt not responding with protectionist tariff caused the economic problems in Detroit. These economic problems led to the social strife. The Democrat govt of Detroit exploited these economic problems which made things even worse.

True enough, but Detroit was turning out technically outmoded poorly made cr*p. I remember the phrase from the late 70s, “You don’t have to slam the door, it’s not an American car.”

The globalist shift could have been overcome, but the unions would not addapt. They lost, and are part of the Democrat problem.

A corrupt police force under Democrat rule also helps crime along.

Without the crime Detroit has a great location that would be used for something.
