Immigration wasn't a major issue back then. The 1970 census had the lowest number and percentage of foreign-born of any 20th century census.

Nobody was complaining much about mass immigration in 1972 because it hadn't really started, and nobody was really calling for more immigration (after the 1965 law was passed), because they figured the levels of immigration we'd had earlier were a thing of the past that wouldn't return.

Free trade, though, has always been a libertarian mantra.

Libertarianism is anther political fad spawned by the French Enlightenment, principally the likes of Diderot, Rousseau and Voltaire. Unsurprisingly, all through history, the French have been the catalysts for virtually every insane heresy, both religious and secular, inflicted upon mankind. It’s touchstone was was Revolutionary mantra: Liberte’/Egalite’/Fraternitie’;the very essence of malarkey. Wonder if Cato has a clue???
