This might be an idea whose time has come: Nearly two-thirds of Americans are in favor of free college for everyone, and about three-quarters think at least some people should be eligible for free college, a new survey shows.
As the labor market increasingly benefits the better educated, and as college education and earnings potential become more tightly linked, people are coming around to an idea that seemed radical until very recently.
Vermont senator Bernie Sanders touted the idea as a central plank of his primary platform, and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton recently announced her own version, which includes a household income cap of $85,000 that rises to $125,000 in the future, while Republican nominee Donald Trump has not released a detailed plan to address tuition costs....

Along with the pony he promised a $2500 savings on health insurance. Waiting on that one too.
He promised me if I liked my doctor I could keep my doctor. My doctor “retired” last year, after writing a scorching letter to all his patients saying the reason he was leaving the practice of medicine was Obamacare and all the red tape and regulations it entailed. He said he could no longer could practice medicine because he was constantly having to comply with all the red tape, and the increased costs had gotten to the point where he could not make any money.
We have had something like 900 doctors here leave the practice of medicine since Obamacare took effect.
so what will happen AGAIN is that the struggling middle class will get screwed...
too "rich" for college help but too poor to afford it themselves...
just like health insurance, Medicaid, food stamps, free phones, free transportation, free summer camps, free every single thing...
but work, and work hard, especially if you had to go thru schooling and training, then you can just forget any help...
Public universities will be made free and private schools will submit to takeover or go out of business.
and what grades?...and what if you can't even manage C"?..do you get kicked out?..
and who pays when these freesters fail and drop out?...are there an repprecussions to the takers?...
of course not....

Drives me to drink! There is no such thing as free college or free anything else. Schools are not going to eductae you kid for free. Someone has to pay the bill. You do. you just get to pay it to the Government in taxes insted of directly to your kids school.
You put yourself and your kids through collage and the reparations you will receive is that now you have to put ever ones else's kids through collage for the remainder of your natural live.
......college classes do not necessarily equate to being educated.
If they want to offer free college then make it available to the legitimate students pursuing degrees in business, finance, technology, engineering or medical fields...........
As far as student athletes under scholarships using the universities as a pathway to the pros, I would demand any such athlete who signs a pro contract to reimburse his university for the full amount of his education and room and board..........
I read many of your posts, you talk way to much sense.
To bad our brain dead country doesn’t listen more to people like you.
I do NOT believe that conventional college classes, with in-person instructors and a real person grading exams, should be an entitlement.
I do believe that technology has advanced to the point where many subjects can be entirely automated, with online courses, recorded lectures, and electronically administered and graded exams. For those kinds of classes, standard tuition doesn’t make sense anymore. They could be offered either for free (with the cost of maintaining the servers covered either by donations), or at a small cost.
I also think we’ve reached the point technologically where some majors could be earned by taking an exam. Proving that you know the material is more important than proving how long you sat in the seat.
Pay a fee, take the exam, done.
Some colleges are already making moves in this direction.
My son starts in August. 24K a year. This family will deal. No free college. First of all. Why would I want to have raised taxes for free college when this will be paid off sooner then taxes for life. Heck with 4 kids and approx 400K, my wife and I still come ahead then paying more taxes for life. Sad but true. People are so stupid!!!!!
It’s huge myth that big time sports programs make money for their respective universities. A study I saw recently showed of all the Division 1 schools something like 20 actually made money for the school. All the rest had to be subsidized usually by the state taxpayer.
That was supposed to say “either by donations, or included in the cost of IT for the rest of the school.”
That’s a BS poll if I ever saw one. What was the question? “Do you want to die or get free college?” Well, now, I think free college will do just fine.
I tested out two years of college while in the Army for free.
Ironic that as more people have college degrees, the less valuable they are and the more valuable a skilled trade becomes.
A friend is making a new video version of The Child Catcher with new voices and subtitles.
“Free Tuition! Free Health Care! All free today, students!”
I think you may have misread the study.......
That’s not the study I read.
I will try and find it.
“and what if you can’t even manage C”?..do you get kicked out?..”
Nope. Everyone gets at least a “C”. College: A participation trophy.
