The film says EU tariffs on imports for protecting non competitive companies caused prices to rise for supplies further driving other companies out of business and is a main reason to exit EU , ( a sugar refinery in England is given as an example ) So how is this different for Trump who has also proposed tariffs on imports ? I'm not seeing how exit from the EU benefits trump if because of the tariffs ? What am I missing ? If China imposes tariffs on the US and our stuff can't be sold so people loose jobs while the US allows freely their imports to flood our market seems like a shot in our own foot , I'm with trump on that , but that is not what this film says...

I think the bigger point was not to use or minimize tariff use, it was to ensure when they were or were not used, it was done with the best interests of your sovereign country in mind, not the interests of some country hundreds of miles away from your border.
And to ensure that if your own citizens don’t like it, you have at least some way to address it.
