As a person that actually has Indian ancestry (I can say Indian because many of my ancestors were), that lying witch offends me. Pocahontas, INDEED! Shame, shame, shame!
Me too. I’m actually half Cherokee but I never saw the need to apply for college or anything else as a minority. High cheekbones...ugh!
Because of the differing manner in which Eastern and Western Cherokees trace their genealogy and blood quantum (Eastern is through the maternal line, Western is through both the paternal and maternal lines), it was possible to slip through this anomaly, and hope that nobody would ever call out Elizabeth Warren on it. Almost all the “faux Indians” claim to be some degree of Cherokee ancestry, as it is one of the harder ones to disprove, because of this dichotomy. And besides, “Cherokee” sounds so mainstream Native American. The very word “Cherokee” is not even their own language, it was the Creek Indian word for “people who live in caves”.
My great grandfather was full blood Indian. We don’t know what kind. No one has ever used it in any way.
My granddaughter is looking for a job and was telling me that every application is asking if they speak Spanish first and then ethnicity. I told her yesterday to put a kink in it and mark Native American. lol
I’m 1/16th Indian — a tribe in Western NY State — Seneca, if family lore is correct.
I’d never insult them by trying to trying to take advantage of it politically or any other way. Anyone (Warren) who’d do that is despicable — especially if it’s a complete lie.
