My late father (gunnery sergeant) served from 1943 to 1965.

My best memories were of my first days after boot camp serving with mainly older WWII Marines, most of them Staff NCOs, though there were were double/tripled hashmarked corporals and buck sergeants among them.
And, a few even older China Marines, POWs, Nicaragua, etc.

Many of the corporals and sergeants, only slightly older than myself at 17, were veterans of the Inchon landing and frozen Chosin!

I am honored to have served with them and cherish my memories of those now long ago days.
