I have never shot a rat, but I DID take out a rabid groundhog, in the rain, with a common garden shovel, LOL! When I moved to my little farm, the outbuildings hadn’t been used in many, many years and were full of New York City-sized Mama Rats. Trapping them was...interesting...to say the least. They were very aggressive and unafraid.

Great Grandpa used to smoke the rats out of the hay barn, and then my Uuncles would shoot them as they fled. Good Times! ;)
