Some of the more “desirable” examples of these UP engines have actually been dropped off at railroad museums for storage. The two I know of that have been so stored have had the fuel, engine oil, and cooling water drained and the batteries removed, so they’re not expecting to need them back for service any time soon.

At least they haven’t been dumped in the ocean to make artificial reefs -yet.
