We went to our district caucus and submitted our names to be considered as delegates, and also said who we supported at the moment (Cruz). 27 of us were elected by a group of about 100 folks. Everyday folks from our district. Two or three of the elected delegates were “famous”, politicians that had been in previous campaigns and a local talk-show guy. Some of the others were party volunteers for the various neighborhood precincts. Myself and daughter and many others were newbies, and just wanting to get involved. Almost all of the delegates elected were for Cruz. A couple for Rubio (he was still in), one for Kasich. Two Trump supporters were elected as alternates.

Next month we will have the state convention to select 47 delegates to go to the national convention. I imagine most of those delegates will be comprised of the more “famous” people or the well-known volunteers. And of course also based on who they say they will support if it comes down to a contested election.

Our primary isn't until AFTER the state convention. So I guess that will rule out these kinds of videos if the state is anything like my district and goes 90% Cruz for delegates but Trump wins the primary. (The Cruz delegates must vote for the winner of the primary, and can vote their conscience on the second ballot).

and can vote their conscience on the second ballot

This is where I'm having the hardest time. Knowing that *I* would feel morally, ethically obligated to vote for the person that the majority of my state voted for, in ALL ballots, I find it utterly disheartening to know how many selfish people there are in the world... that they would vote for their own personal preference in the second vote, regardless of the will of the people of their state.

Well that’s how it works...they do get to pick the delegates locally...then state and then national.....and each have teams to do the selecting. That’s the Party working as it’s designed to work....and yes as it moves through the hoops there are more and more political and officials who become delegates....also how it works.

One of Trumps greatest mistakes, and there have been serious ones, was walking away from his pledge....that immediately stated to the Republican Party Leadership he was not going to abide by their rules nor the party in general. There job is to make certain the candidates are supporting the Party line... It IS the ‘Republican’ party and Trump had the option to form his own if he didn’t want to comply to begin with......the fact that pledges were even asked, (as never before) indicates clearly Trump was not trusted from the get go...and he should not be with his Democratic History.

But good for you and yours for stepping up to the plate!!! I was active in Bush’s election....you learn a lot along the way about the process and as much the game plays as the bigger players come on board.
