Trump just got BAD news, could COST him nomination(Allen West's blog)

While Donald Trump continues to lead in delegate count, this week has not been his in terms of momentum. The GOP frontrunner was handed a resounding defeat in Wisconsin, where rival Ted Cruz beat him 48.2% to 35.1%. Now all eyes have turned to New York, the next primary in the nominating contest, with 95 delegates at stake — where Trump currently enjoys a commanding 56% to 22% lead over Cruz in the latest poll.

But even before the New York primary in a couple weeks, Trump may be precluded from reaching the required 1,237 delegates before the Republican National Convention, given what’s rather quietly happening in Colorado as we speak. As The Washington Post wrote of the Colorado delegates:

But if the Republican presidential race between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz is decided by just a handful of delegates, what happens in Colorado this weekend might matter most of all.

Nate Silver goes so far as to suggest that if Trump gets shut out in Colorado this weekend, he will definitely fall short of the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination before the convention. And that, of course, would leave him vulnerable to the workings of the GOP convention, which many — including Trump supporters — fear could quash his chances of walking away as the nominee.

Many observers — and the Trump campaign itself — don’t expect Trump to do well in Colorado.

Based on what happened in the first two district contests, it is expected that Ted Cruz will sweep the 34 Colorado delegates being selected at the district and state assemblies. The remaining three delegates are the members of the Republican National Committee from Colorado and can remain unbound.

As of Friday afternoon, Cruz has dominated the first five contests in Colorado, while Trump and Kasich remain empty-handed. While neither candidate will make the trip to Colorado this weekend, both Trump and Kasich are putting more focus on the state convention’s weekend proceedings, in an attempt to nab some delegates before it’s over.

While this contest is likely to garner a small fraction of the coverage the upcoming New York primary will get, it’s on its way to quietly tipping the scales further toward a contested convention.

I see your friend (to whom I do not post) thinks that was hilarious.

As crazy as the trumpers are, I would not post a home page or a location if I had it to do over again.

This is quite true. I recall hearing in a first semester undergraduate course in political science 41 years ago, that that central question in politics can be expressed as the question “who decides?” [Thanks, and a tip of the Hatlo hat to Donald K. Emmerson, Emeritus Professor at The University of Wisconsin at Madison.]

In the chase for the nomination, one needs to understand that the delegates decide at the convention. To varying degrees the primary voters select delegates, delegates with varying obligations to be bound through successive ballots. These are dictated by the rules which will stand until the rules committee reports to the convention at large, when the dynamic rules that apply to a convention may, yet again, change.

Those who are wetting the bed over Cruz’s success in garnering delegates under the rules might consider that, if their candidate is on the losing end of delegate selections, perhaps they should stop pounding the table and consider that someone who cannot understand and strategize within the existing rules, might not be the best person to place in the White House, where the challenge is infinitely greater.

I don’t know what the rules are exactly, but if the rules are not recent changes than everybody has been on the same plain for previous elections and won or lost by the same rules.

The bad part is that there are no rules until the convention.

It seems to me that the discussion on this thread is missing the point.

The most important thing for conservatives is that the Republicans win the White House and hold the Senate. This will insure that the Supreme Court will become more conservative and not more liberal for the next generation.

The "rules", whatever they may be, need to align with that goal.

If over half of all Republicans WILL NOT VOTE for Trump under any circumstances, and if over half of all Republicans WILL NOT VOTE for Cruz under any circumstances, then I would suggest that sensible rules will dictate that some third party win the GOP nomination.

Regardless of who wins the GOP nomination, I will be voting against Hillary or Bernie and for the GOP nominee.

I have a daughter who "feels the Bern" and somebody has to take on the responsibility of cancelling out her vote.

Those Freepers who will not vote for Trump, need to consider carefully what it means that many conservatives will not vote for Cruz. Those Freepers who will not vote for Cruz, neet to consider carefully what it means that many conservatives will not vote for Trump.

Winning the nomination will be quite irrelevant if we don't win the general. Unless you are a conservative who will vote for the GOP nominee regardless of who it is, then you are not being sensible regarding the possibility that someone other than the two top contenders becomes the nominee.

I appreciate your points.

Personally, I cant tell you or myself what I will do on election day.
Both 2008 and 2012 were tough ones, I liked neither GOP candidates and I don't like Trump now.

Both were last minute tough decisions.

But its pretty darn petty in my view to threaten to help elect Hillary if the nomination doesn't go our(any one of us) way.

I sure wont be threatening to help Hillary if Trump wins it. That would be childish,

Based on comments from two posters on this thread, I have learned that the GOPe thinks that this is all a game.

Maybe but they're like a cult. It's like watching the Jim Jones crowd where they refuse to even hear anything against their precious Cruz. Scares the crap out of me.

At least this thread wasn't attacked by accusing him of being a GOPe.

You never know in these days.

It’s working great for Hillary.

Extrapolate what you will, from that.

I think West, Cruz, or Trump would make a fine President given that the alternatives are Hillary and Bernie. It is said that "perfection is the enemy of the good".

None of the possible nominees is perfect. We need a nominee who is principled, intelligent, and motivated to use his intelligence to advance the principles we support.

Either Hillary or Bernie will open our immigration to all comers, especially those who come from cultures which specifically reject our Founding principles.

Either Hillary or Bernie will borrow every dollar that lenders will provide to purchase loyalty from voters regardless of the debt burden for the children and grandchildren of those voters.

Either Hillary or Bernie will destroy the U.S. dollar and the U.S. economy, much as the socialists in Venezuela have destroyed their currency and economy.

Either Hillary or Bernie will appoint Justices to the Supreme Court who will repeal Heller and completely negate the Second Amendment followed closely by elimination of the entire Bill of Rights.

The amount of damage done to the U.S. by either Hillary or Bernie dwarfs any problems we might see from any possible GOP nominee.

Actually, I don’t think Trump or Cruz have the best qualifications.

I think a combination of real world and political e perienxe is the best.

Of course, that describes Bush and people weren’t happy with him.

What’s interesting to me are Trump’s kids. Ivanka and his older son (can’t remember his name) have been great campaigning for their dad. They have much better personalities. If they got into politics, I think they would make interesting candidates.

Cruz has relied on Kasich votes to get the delegates.

For some reason in the upper midwest they bailed on Cruz.

There’s probably some reason why the Kasich votes are going to Cruz out west but not in other places.

Trump and Kasich can probably do the same thing in New England.

What’s the deal with Allen West selling his name to generic Republican bloggers? What’s the general law on that. I’m not saying there is anything wrong I’m curious what the law is and what the payday is.

Cruz will not bring Conservatives what they desire. He will bring on the brokered
convention, at which the Global Establishment will choose a candidate (not Cruz, who
will be offered something). And Cruz followers will over time realize that the Global
Establishment will proceed, to the destruction of all that we hold dear.

But they will heed no warning.
