I get your point but the longer they are in the hallowed halls of congress the more tricks they learn and the power of incumbency becomes almost unbeatable. At some point serving the constituents morphs into deceiving them. And the old truism about absolute power corrupting absolutely is absolutely true.
When they first get to Washington its all about the people. But after just a couple of years it becomes all about them. That is the mindset that takes hold and leads them to compromise away any values they may once have held. Politics becomes a game instead of a mission.
If enough people in a district/state/country feel they aren’t represented, they’ll throw them out. If they represent their constituents well (enough at the cost of neighboring entities), they are doing their jobs.
