That radio host's tweet about a source "deep inside" the Cruz camp saying "Cruz might have had affairs" is a clue.

He's going with the "slow confession." It'll be gradual. He might have. There is no credible evidence. These accusations are hurting my family; we've had troubles in the past, like many families. Etc. etc. Until it finally culminates in a statement with a dutiful Heidi standing by her man.

By going the slow route, he hopes to inoculate his supporters. Little dribs, until the truth won't hurt so much.

Now he's got to be strategic. Let just enough out until he finds out what they've got. Have to stay half-a-second ahead of the exposure of new revelations.
