"However, being a States Rights proponent; this should be handled by independent States, not driven down by the Federal Government."

That's the way is already. Hawaii and Arizona opt out, as do a few localities.

Arizona and Hawaii do not observe daylight time. So I think under current law, every state has that choice.

I remember years ago, Indiana did not observe daylight time, but now that state does. So I think each state has the choice. someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Right now I like it, work 6PM to 4:30AM. Nice to go to sleep when it’s dark.

Heard someone comment that we shouldn’t use DST, because we are dealing with global warming, ‘and that extra hour of sun could make it worse’..

Wouldn't following nature's biological clock be more beneficial to our wellbeing?

Kinda, but then how do you determine whose internal clock every company runs off of? You can't tell all your employees "just get in whenever I do", that won't work, they'll have no idea when to get in. You can't have a business meeting at 'high noon' when the sun doesn't always fly straight above at all. There has to be a universal clock that everyone can relate to. And, that was the point of DST. The clocks move forward/backward in order to make the most 'day' out of the sunlight hours. With the sun rising earlier, moving the clock forward an hour means the sun rises at 06 instead of 0500. Likewise, back in fall makes the sun rise at 06 instead of 0700.

That said, I still think it's stupid and should be gotten rid of.

That doesn't make any sense. The extra hour is at 0200, so it actually means an extra hour of not-sun, which means it helps stop global warming. We should start adding another hour until global warming is stopped!!

why are we embracing DST?

Because the government says so.

Wouldn't following nature's biological clock be more beneficial to our wellbeing?

Yes, but the government says DST. And they have the guns.

Who decided first that it was a good idea to turn clocks forward one hour in spring and wind them back in the fall?

Who had the idea first is debatable. Who forced in on us? The government.

Did it save significant amounts of energy and thus money?

No but that is not the point. The point is the government yells, "Frog!" and you hop and go "ribbit!" This is not healthy.

If the argument is that kids have to wait on school buses in the dark, wouldn’t it be easier to just have the school change the school hours rather than the whole nation change their clocks?

I do like it when we fall back an hour. I’d support us falling back an hour every Sunday.

A lot of discussion and angst over one hour. It’s not like we switched to Moscow standard time, y’know!

Does anybody REALLY care?

What we need is Local Noon Based Time(LNBT) this time would be locally computer generated based on when high noon is at your physical local location.

The time from solar noon from one day to the next is not the same. It varies by about a minute over the course of the the year.

What’s needed is Universal G Time.

Whatever time it is where I’m at, that’s what time it is everywhere else too.

Yes, I discovered that when I coded up a script to calculate LNBT and ran it in a loop into a spreadsheet and graphed the results.

It shouldn't be to difficult but I still need to find a way to smooth out the results so it's not bouncing around like that.

then it wouldn't need to be adjusted a few seconds every day.

Maybe I should start a GIT project and see where it goes.

You guys must not work for a living.

I treasure Daylight Savings Time as for at least a few months out of the year, I get to have a couple hours of daylight after I get home from work. I go out to the grill, cook a steak and have a couple of beers. But you seem to want to take that away from me.

Why?

I’m with that. 365 DST.

I don’t need Winter morning sun.

It rained most of the afternoon yesterday, so there was zero advantage of losing an hour of sleep n to go on DST.

However, we are now having a break in the rain, and my wife brought me a glass of wine at 5:30 pm with a lot of daylight left.

Nice.

Also, my Pathfinder Casio watch reset itself this morning. Some times it doesn’t do that.

Being retired, we slept in late this morning.

Basically, both sides of our family likes this after the first couple of days

The downside are the serious auto wrecks that happen the first couple of days. We had one in the county today. A driver may have gone to sleep and crossed over the lanes and hit an oncoming vehicle. One death and a couple of serious injuries from this accident.

During daylight savings time, I charcoal/grill about 5-7 evenings a week. We eat outside on the glider on our deck.

There is minimal prep and cleanup afterwards. The tv basically is not used during this time.

We are waiting for Costco to have its big spring sale on their name brand charcoal. I have about 1.5 bags left over from last year. I grill everything from critters to veggies and fruits.

We have a char broil grill which uses propane to start the charcoal. When the meal is done, we shut the grill down. I will spend about 5 minutes the next day wire brushing the grill, dumping the ashes and reloading the charcoal for the next evening meal.
