The gun didn't fail, the front plastic handguard caught on fire. The video is too low of a resolution to tell if it was a plastic forearm, or if it was an aluminum Picatinny forearm with plastic rail covers on them.
Either way, the gas tube will get glowing red hot during extended mag dumps, and that can easily set plastic forearm parts on fire.

Just took mine to the range Tuesday, put about 50 or 60 rounds through it in maybe 20-30 minutes (zeroing my red dot). barrel was so hot I let it sit for 15 minutes before I put in back in the case.

Agree, to the fact that it was the handguard that caught fire. Definitely a poor handguard design. I’ve destroyed a couple of barrels on a M249 on purpose, but have never set the handguards on fire.

Either way, the gas tube will get glowing red hot during extended mag dumps, You can burn holes in the gas tubes too. That slows the rate of fire down quite a bit.

The gun didn't fail, the front plastic handguard caught on fire. Ak's will burn off their wood handguards too. Takes several magazines on full-auto, [about 10/ 300 rounds] which process can be sped up considerably by using 75-round RPK drum magazines.
How to remove AK wood handguards...well, one way to....
