Well, that's memorable discourse ....
“The wailing and moaning coming from the Conservative Industrial Complex conceals the terrible truth at the core of their thing. That is, there’s nothing there. The “movement” they carry on about has nothing to show for itself since the 80’s and now it is being knocked out of the box by a guy they call a “witless ape.” Whatever it was or intended to be, it’s just an artifact of a bygone era now. It’s a museum piece. “
Every movement begins as a crusade, becomes a business, and ends as a scam.
GOPe “conservatism” became a scam long ago.
I rather think the better historical analogy would be to Italy in the wake of World War I opening away from Bonito Mussolini or to the Weimar Republic and the psychosis which turned Italy and Germany to the demagogue. In America we have the example of Huey Long.
Apart from Obama of the modern era, Donald Trump is the closest we have come in America to a demagogue getting near the White House since Huey Long. Like Mussolini, Hitler and Huey Long pretended to be something they were not, they were all liars. The conditions so favorable to demagoguery have been at least partially created by a real demagogue, Barack Obama who is possessed of the same fascist/communist ideology as Mussolini, Hitler and Huey Long. Trump's demagoguery is not ideological but narcissistic and opportunistic which makes him no less dangerous if invested with power over a crumbling culture and atomic weapons in a post constitutional age.
No gravitational center. They meander about policy like so many asteroids without a solar system.
” If Trump and Sanders are a clue, the future of American politics may look more like the 19th century than the 20th.”
Well Trump may be the roughest character to run since Andrew Jackson, who also outraged the elites with his behavior.
But Trump would have to get into a few duels with his opponents to equal Jackson’s toughness. Jeb! and the rest should consider themselves lucky.
“On May 30, 1806, future President Andrew Jackson killed a man who accused him of cheating on a horse race bet and then insulted his wife, Rachel.
“Contemporaries described Jackson, who had already served in Tennessee’s Senate and was practicing law at the time of the duel, as argumentative, physically violent and fond of dueling to solve conflicts. Estimates of the number of duels in which Jackson participated ranged from five to 100.”
The two parties have been a lie for a long time. We are only just seeing it clearly now. We have had no real representation. Only actors playing the part of a senator or congressman. Pretending to represent some constituents. Making believe they weren’t really paid representatives of industries and companies.
It’s all going to be rectified now, but the fight will be to the death I think.
