Outside of where federal facilities sit, why is there federal land in our 50 states in the first place?
The reason for Federally held lands - we do not have a king. The Federal government has assumed the prerogatives of royal privilege, and regards itself the authority by which these lands may be granted use of by other entities or individuals. Theoretically, every acre the Federal government holds title to may be signed over to the states, other entities, or individuals, and in fact, the Homesteading Acts were just such vehicles for conveying title.
Under royal rule, ALL title to land was held by the king, who then gave leaseholds or freeholds to favored individuals. Upon the death of those individuals, title to the land reverted to the king, and the vast holdings of the king were to be used as his private preserve. That is one of the reasons Robin Hood got in so much trouble, he was poaching on the king’s lands. But since the king’s men could not be everywhere, the Sheriff of Nottingham was charged with pursuit of the Merry Men, acting as a bounty hunter, with the offer of whatever price it was that was set on the outlaws’ heads.

Answer, because over 50% of people will perform sinful acts for the largess the FedGov gives them, or what IT may give them in the future.
Because the feds never gave it to the States. Up until a few decades ago it was no big deal. Ranchers got to ranch on it, hunters had free reign to hunt on it, oil wells could be drilled, the National Parks were for people, not animals, etc, etc.
Now that the lefties have a firm hold on the nation, it is much like Alloysteel said. Unless leftism can be curbed, it will not belong before only the elite can own private land.
We are sooooooooooo screwed if Cruz or Trump are outvoted by illegals and the dead.
I suspect if Hitlery gets in, she’ll start with outright gun confiscation aided and abetted by the RINO’s.
