The ramp up time to get a conscript mlitary makes the entire process moot. Any large scale war would be over before the first draftee made it to boot camp.

Well, there is always a peacetime draft, otherwise known as compulsory national service for everyone between 18 and 25.

Obama still has not built his domestic army like he promised and he's running out of time.

What I think a lot of people are missing in this discussion is that we are broke. Funding a conscription army in the field would be impossible. If we slip into a recession this time around, we might just slide into a depression.

I often times think the US is economically where the Soviet Union was in 1989.

After Vietnam (when those who led the war effort later admitted it was a mistake, and the next president pardoned those who dodged the draft), we could never have a draft again - and the peacetime draft is out of the question because people who believe in nothing won’t want to squander their time on this earth (especially their prime years). One problem with creating a gibsmedat mentality to win elections is that those people don’t listen to ANY authority.

Obama’s domestic army continues to be bred on the welfare reservations; we saw some detachments in action in Ferguson and Baltimore.
