I would bet that Trump will steer right if elected. He is smart enough to know the wrath he will incurr if he does otherwise.
There is apparently nothing he can do or say that will cause his fans "on the right" to turn against him. It's a cult and he embraces his koreshian role.
He will veer hard to the left, back to where he always was, to "make deals" with the Democrats and to get more favorable press from the likes of the NYTimes and ABC.
“...I would bet that Trump will steer right if elected. He is smart enough to know the wrath he will incurr if he does otherwise...”
I don’t think Trump cares what you, me or anyone else thinks. He has no reason to steer particularly right - he’s a “populist” with a strong “cult of personality” following. He can do whatever he wants, or at least he believes he can. Consider this doozy from him (yesterday?):
“... They say I have the most loyal people - did you ever see that? - where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters,” Trump said, illustrating his point by pulling his fingers into a gun shape. “Okay? It’s like incredible.” The crowd laughed and clapped, and someone in the audience shouted out love for the candidate. ...”
Obviously he’s attempting a joke, but for a joke to be funny, it needs an element of truth. What I hear him saying is that his followers are so enamored, they are blind to anything he wants to do. Or maybe that’s just his ego talking and his followers *would* wake up and rebuke him if he strays from their ideal image of him. I honestly think either situation is pretty creepy, if not dangerous.
