In A Night At The Opera, Groucho Marx's carriage, running late, pulls up at the opera house, and he asks whether he's missed the opera. There's still a few minutes left, says the doorman.
Groucho barks at his driver: "I told you to slow that nag down.... Once around the park, and drive slowly."
That's my approach to the State of the Union. I took it once around the park and slowly, and arrived home just as President Obama was schmoozing and gladhanding his way out the door.
But, alas, I had forgotten the Official Response to the State of the Union.
This is when the other party picks some allegedly rising star to "respond" to the speech - not by addressing anything the guy actually said, but by droning robotically some bland pap that was loaded into the prompter long before the President began speaking, and usually involving some "compelling personal story", like growing up the daughter of immigrants or the son of a mailman or whatever. I would have a modicum of respect for Jeb Bush if he were to blow whatever loose change is left of his 100 million bucks with one final campaign ad along the lines I suggested a few months back: "I come from a humble upbringing. I was raised the son of a president. We had it tough back then. In those days they only had the 20-car motorcade, not the 40-car one they've got today..."

The GOPe response only served to prove that there is only a ONE PARTY rule at the present time.
The “Official Response” has turned into a barometer of dead enders.
Double BINGO!!! She was AWFUL!!
Press secretary, hell no.
SECSTATE.
At the same time, that does not mean we just flat out open our borders. We can't do that. We cannot continue to allow immigrants to come here illegally. And in this age of terrorism, we must not let in refugees whose intentions cannot be determined.
We must fix our broken immigration system. That means stopping illegal immigration. And it means welcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of their race or religion. Just like we have for centuries.
Can someone point out, in detail, what is wrong with these statements?
I was thinking John Bolton for Secretary of State.
“The Republican brand is already ruined”, as usual, Steyn is right on.
Many if not most Muslim immigrants do not and will not “love our traditions”, in fact, they want to change our traditions and install Sharia. That’s one wrong. The “willing to work hard” is great, I guess that’s why many immigrants are on welfare and climbing. Those words she spoke are mindless talking points, she sounds just like Obama.
The death cult is where she fell off the wagon! You cannot have open borders with a death cult religion! Americans need to wake up and realize that they are inviting in a group of people who are at war with the civilized world. This war will remain in place until every inhabitant of our nation fully "submits" to Allah. With these elites there is never a call for "Separation of Mosque and state" it is always "separation of CHURCH and state." Without a doubt the establishment is promoting ISLAM in our nation. If you dare criticize it they want to vilify you.
I caught a blurb of the “response” to the SOTU, which I
missed all round. Haley’s teeth were certainly WHITE, and
she was certainly TANNED. Never heard of her before last
night. - She sure got Trump’s goat; Hussein’s goat - not so
much. GOPe reeks!
Obama is talking about Trump. The GOP establishment is talking about Trump.
Trump is driving the agenda, and he isn’t even the nominee yet !
abide by our laws, and love our traditions
Sharia is NOT compatible with the USA.
Of course, these clauses would also eliminate most of the current Administration, Judiciary and Congress.
“No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, ... regardless of their race or religion. Just like we have for centuries.
Can someone point out, in detail, what is wrong with these statements?”
The problem is it has the same relationship to truth as Obama’s promises that “you can keep your Doctor, you can keep your insurance”
Defining the "moderate" vote as Rubio, Bush, Christie and Kasich, that adds up to a combined 21 per cent in recent polls.
So these days the GOP can't even schedule an insipid forgettable SOTU response without insulting the overwhelming majority of its actual voters.
Is it possible for the GOPe to get any more stupid?
What’s wrong with it is that she clearly doesn’t believe much of her own statement, especially this part, as evidenced by the total statement.
Yes.....nominate any one of those people!!
What did you expect?
Reminds us of what could have been...
Yep, as in: "WHEW!! THANK GOD WE DODGED THAT BULLET AND GOT A COUPLE DECENT CANDIDATES!!"
