Will Yellowstone Super-Volcano Erupt? Millions Could Be Killed During ‘Volcano Season,’

Volcanic eruptions have occurred at their highest rate in 300 years, and experts caution that there could be a massive "super-volcano" with the potential to kill millions and destroy substantial amounts of wildlife. Scientists at the European Science Foundation said super-volcanoes could erupt within the next 80 years, reported the Tech Times.

Researchers said the active volcanoes that could prove to be the most dangerous are Yellowstone in Wyoming, Mount Vesuvius in Campagnia, Italy, and Popocatépetl near Mexico City. If any of the three erupt, the damage would be "beyond the imagination of anything man’s activity and global warming could do over 1,000 years," according to the researchers.

In the report, titled "Extreme Geo-hazards: Reducing the Disaster Risk and Increasing Resilience,” scientists predict that the Yellowstone volcano will erupt within 70 years and will have the potential to wipe out a considerable amount of the western United States.

The obvious solution is Socialism and third world immigration...

You forgot the urgent need for gun control. Gun ownership by US citizens is highly exacerbating the threat from volcanos.

My apologies. I admit my microaggression against society due to my White privilege.

“The obvious solution is Socialism and third world immigration...”

That’s the solution to everything, even ‘climate change’.

I can’t make myself care about a potentiality so massive. “So what” is my automatic attitude. A super volcano blast would be it’s own thing.

And it lasts 80 years, so just because none of us will be alive to see this bit of prophecy fail to realize, doesn’t mean it isn’t ‘true’!

nothing we can do about it

We can at least start by throwing virgins and fistfuls of dollars down into these volcanoes now. It's worth a shot.

We do far more to 'fight global warming' without results or impact.

New Madrid Fault is of concern to me. But not obsessed with it. Memphis to Vicksburg and N to St Louis. Bad news...

yes and there is nothing we can do about it.

Which is precisely the reason the subject was broached. The "do nothing about it" crowd likes to stir their own juices, and this is something on the order of a meteorite strike. Coming in from somewhere in the metaphysical left field, either a vast caldera eruption or a meteorite strike can cause only desolation and utter destruction, and (Oh, happy day!) the decimation of the human race.

Reducing the infestation of humanity on this planet is the goal of EVERY Malthusian enthusiast on the planet. Somehow, THEY will be spared, and then enjoy the much greater wealth per person to be divided up,in equal portions, of course.

These people tend to overdramatize things.

... and then there is Charleston, SC, where they had a really big one, 7.0 magnitude, in 1886. Suspected cause was a deeply buried fault from the opening of the Atlantic Ocean 175m years ago as the last super-continent, Pangea, broke apart. Charlestonians would have preferred a re-visit from Sherman.

Burning the money would do less harm than the current practice.

I wish there was a finer timeline on these events. We’re scheduling the “Griswold” family trips for the upcoming year and would love to know the upcoming dates of this death and destruction so we can schedule around them.
