People hate those that give them something for nothing. Hatred is the natural human response to charity. At least, so said Nietzsche.
Including a free one-way ticket to Africa?
I can confirm Nietzsche. I grew up poor, “Trailor Trash” , We got charity and grew to hate it—Welfare was a terrible joke. I got a job and worked hard—when the welfare women learned of this she deducted my small income from our welfair check! So—not really helping I quit. The Christmas season was the worst—well dressed ladies would come with bags of bent tins of food, broken toys, and cast off cloths little better than rags—and expect us to thank them. My mother did—I grew to hate their attude—They were better than us. They robbed us of something—Our Dignity. Better to give a job to a poor person than free junk. We got off welfare and I vow to never take a cent of it again—and I haven’t.
