As a believing Catholic, anyone who faithfully pursues the truth, wherever it leads, has my thanks.

Let us be clear that use of obsenities or adjectives is not vulgarity. Vulgarity is a show of stupidity and ignorance. Olavo is none of that.

Julio Severo’s original article is a lovely little hit piece attacking the Catholic Church. Whereas there is much to rue about the Church, the article is clearly intended to undermine the Church’s prestige and authority. One scarcely expects a complete discussion of such a massive and complex organization, but Olavo is correct in pointing out that Severo’s article lacks balance and nuance. It is for this that Olavo rightly calls Severo a ‘scoundrel.’

In objecting to the scoundrel sobriquet Severo astonished on two counts. First, he kindly links to his own original article but provides no link to Olavo’s Facebook response. By failing to do so Severo weakens his own argument, namely, that he is being vilely maligned by Olavo. The second is Severo’s furiously overblown response to being called a scoundrel, which far exceeds the severity of the offense, if indeed such a mild appellation can be deemed offensive in today’s unremarked gutter speak discourse. He is making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Why? It is so transparently contrived that it calls Severo’s honesty into question. I’m going to put this one down to virtue signaling designed to silence Olavo’s criticism of the original agitprop.
